EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) is an interior gateway protocol that can be used for a variety of topologies and media. EIGRP scales well and delivers incredibly fast convergence times with low network traffic in a well-designed network.
The issue with IGRP was that it didn't accept VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Masking) and was broadcast-based. VLSM is now supported by the Enhance Interior Gateway Routing Protocol, and updates are sent via multicast using the following multicast address: 224.0.0.100 for IPv4.
